Dear Friends and Supporters:
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you that we have decided to stop operations of the Kelly Packowski MS Foundation as of September 1, 2013. This was a very tough decision, but the downturn in the economy coupled with the loss of major sponsors has made it increasingly difficult for us to continue our mission.
We are very proud of our accomplishments during the past decade and with your help, the Foundation has raised over $1 million and helped fund more than 500 grants to local families in our MS community.
When establishing the foundation, one of our goals was to lessen the burden placed upon, not only the individual battling MS, but their family as well. We have been able to provide real change in the lives of so many people and for that I am truly grateful. We have also created great partnerships with other organizations within the MS Community including; The National MS Society, Greater New England Chapter, YMCA of Greater Boston, CiCoach and many others. We will personally continue to support these worthy alliances in the future and I urge you to do so as well.
We are forever grateful to the thousands of companies and individuals who believed in our mission during the last decade. Without your support, our work would not have been possible. I am personally humbled by the blood, sweat and tears of our board of directors (both current and past) and the many volunteers who have helped us through the years. I thank you for your time and dedication.
Over the years, we have received many notes from our grant recipients -- their words of gratitude say it best and blesses me with great pride. “What a wonderful thing you have created! If the other people you have helped feel even a fraction of my peach of mind, you must provide such a service to so many. As you know, this disease comes with so many negatives. I thank you so much for adding a ray of light to my life.” Please view more letters on the Grants – How We Have Helped page.
Moving forward, my family and I will continue our dedication to helping individuals and their families with MS in new ways. I hope you will not only support me as I challenge myself with new endeavors, but also continue to support other organizations who work tirelessly to make a difference in the MS community.
In conclusion, reflecting in one letter all the emotions of my journey with MS and what the foundation has meant to me would be impossible, but here are a few thoughts....I do know that I will continue to fight against a disease that has taken many things away from me, but strangely, has also shown me so much. MS has taught me that I am stronger than I ever thought possible and that staying positive is a very powerful tool. Also, never take a single second of a single day for granted --live life fully and take as much as you can out of every day. We all can make a difference if we choose to and I am honored that so many people shared my vision and chose to help others through the foundation.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for a wonderful and fulfilling ten years.
With much appreciation,
Kelly Packowski
